Review:

Sleepless is your typical action film but doesn’t deserve the hate its getting. Yes, the plot has been copied from ‘Taken’ but the film incorporates other elements that ‘Taken’ didn’t have such as betrayal, the idea of Drug trafficking, undercover cops etc.

The main selling point for me was its length. It runs a little over 90 minutes which means there’s non-stop action from the get go, with entertaining set pieces. It also doesn’t really delve into other, more complex plot threads, but remains simple and entertaining, granted, you can’t exactly mess up the film as there isn’t much that can go wrong when making a movie like this, but it still delivers on the action and violence.

The film does suffer from a lot of action movie clichés, such as a scene in a strip club, which has been in most action films since the late 90’s with ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Blade’ meaning it just felt boring and overdone, as we’ve ‘seen it all before’

I felt that the movie had a ‘John Wick’ vibe to it with the direction from Baran bo Odar, due to the use of colour and location, insane and unrealistic action sequences but ultimately ‘John Wick’ was the far superior film in my opinion.

The acting from Jamie Foxx is what you would expect from Jamie Foxx, but Scoot McNairy’s performance was outstanding as an intimidating Psychopath.

Even though I mentioned that the film stayed simple, for the most part it did, but toward the end, it became slightly confusing and a bit muddled, but overall it turned out to be a quite enjoyable popcorn flick!
