Cast: Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John C. Reilly and John Goodman
Director: Jordan Vogt-Roberts
Synopsis: A team of scientists explore an uncharted island in the Pacific, venturing into the domain of Kong.
A disappointment that could’ve been successful but failed. Don’t get me wrong, the film was enjoyable to a certain extent, but quickly descended in to a generic action film with mediocre performances and no room for the character’s development making them boring. You really couldn’t care for them.
The film could have worked if it stuck to the premise of a mysterious island that gets explored, but they wander into ‘Kong’s’ territory. But like most modern monster movies, it added unnecessary things. Such as a huge spider and the lizard-dinosaur monsters that try to kill the team and ‘Kong’
The films main plus, was the cinematography, the CGI looked great, as it should, and the design of the island itself was great too!
Another disappointment was the lack of Kong! The film has his name in the title but failed to deliver on the main selling point: King Kong! There wasn’t enough of him so the film makers substituted that for cringe-worthy interaction between the characters, which unfortunately contained a cliched, cheesy romance…
Overall, Kong: Skull Island was a bore that looked great and sounded fun on paper but just turned out to be, yet again, a generic, cliched mess ☹
