Director: Edgar Wright
Synopsis: After being coerced into working for a crime boss, a young getaway driver finds himself taking part in a heist doomed to fail.
Baby Driver is one of the most stylish, cool movies I have ever seen! The performances from the cast were great and the soundtrack was fun and enjoyable, that keeps the tone fun and upbeat.
The cinematography by Bill Pope is so unique and colourful, there is nothing dull about this movie at all! Edgar Wright is renowned for being one of the best directors working today, and Baby Driver is by far his best so far. His direction is entertaining and quirky and the writing is so natural and flows brilliantly with such a variation of interesting characters with their own motives. Most are developed with care and its great to watch them interact with each other. They all have great chemistry!
The dialogue and script are original and keep you hooked from the get go, the story is also uniquely made that stands out above other heist movies.
The first two acts are so entertaining, and so well made with great music that flows effortlessly with the cinematography and smooth editing like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The third act I thought was quite slow and was dragged out for 5-10 minutes longer than it really should have, but other than that Baby Driver is one of my favourite films of the year, quite possibly in my top 5!
The standout performance was easily Ansel Elgort’s. He delivers on everything, the action, the dialogue and acts so natural, and doesn’t feel out of place at all!
Kevin Spacey also gave one of his best performances since The Usual Suspects, he’s intimidating but stylish and awesome (obviously, it’s Kevin Spacey) The performances from the supporting cast were all good, and no one seemed out of place in any way, they deliver there performances with style and passion, and keep the film entertaining!
Like I said earlier, the third act was weak and dragged out, and the pace was all over the place and quite inconsistent. That being said, I still had a brilliant and fun time watching this movie with a great and entertaining soundtrack that keeps you involved! I definitely recommend Baby Driver if you wanna have a great time at the cinema. Besides the scarce flaws and me overhyping it, Baby Driver still absolutely deserves an A-
