What better time than to rank the biggest Sci Fi franchise of all time, just before the anticipated release of The Last Jedi this December. Here is the Star Wars series placed in order of quality, starting from the worst (Remember it’s just my opinion!)
Easily the worst in the series is the first of the divisive prequel trilogy. The Phantom Menace serves no real purpose in the franchise which is why most people leave it out when they’re marathoning the Star Wars saga, and for good reason. The introduction of Ja Ja Binks is still the lowest part the series has delved! My rating:
The second prequel was an improvement but there are still issues. The overuse of CGI in all three prequels just take away the magic the original trilogy had! The scenes with Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) are easily the best scenes in the entire film, and with an entertaining climax, Attack of the Clones is still a pretty good film! My rating:
Putting Return of the Jedi this low is a risky move, especially for a fan! When rewatching this entry, it just doesn’t hold up like the two previous instalments. In fact, it’s quite disappointing when going through the rest of the series. Obviously it’s still a great film, but just doesn’t compare to the rest of the series in my opinion. The satisfying ending is great, but the scenes leading up to this are just silly, and multiple sequences do not make any sense whatsoever! My rating:
The final film in the prequel trilogy is a great entry into the Star Wars saga. With the best lightsaber duel in the entire series between Obi Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) during the climax. A great score to accompany the third act makes watching Revenge of the Sith an oddly emotional experience. Of course there is the introduction to one of the most iconic characetrs in cinema history as well! My rating:
Rogue One was a great surprise, and a great film. It was another movie set within the star wars universe that expands on the universe that was already established. The introductions of more characters was another great entry for the saga, in particular the beautiful, stunning Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso and the charming Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, the partnership and chemistry is so realistic. The addition of Donnie Yen created another badass character as well! With an ending that gives die-hard fans of the series Goosebumps! Rogue One is an excellent war film. My rating:
In all honesty, The Force Awakens and Rogue One are a tie, so positions two and three are interchangeable. Both are phenomenal films!
The Force Awakens is definitely the most anticipated movie of the past decade, there is no way expectations could be exceeded, let alone met! But it is safe to say, they were met. Reuniting the original cast, if only for a short while, was so refreshing yet nostalgic. Plus the introduction of Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Fin (John Boyega) makes for some great humour and interactions. There is no denying Star Wars: The Force Awakens satisfied fans, and critics alike. Easily one of the best films in recent years too, and the best of 2015. My rating:
The original, the one that started it all is a masterpiece in film making. The originality outdoes every other film in this genre, and still holds up with young children in 2017 who are still loving this classic! The charm of the first film Is undeniable, with a great cast and even greater characters, accompanied by a terrific, iconic score by John Williams, arguably the most recognisable theme song in film history, certifies Star Wars or Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope as one of the greatest films of all time! My rating, and probably everyone else’s! –
Could it really be anything else? The Empire Strikes Back is my second favourite film of all time, and the greatest Star Wars film of all time, and one of three films I consider to be ‘perfect’. Everything the original did good, Empire did it better, with possibly the greatest twist in the history of movies. Awesome settings and landscapes, in particular the Bespin scenes are excellent. Brilliant dialogue, direction and performances with the introduction of one of the coolest characters in the series: Lando Calrissian! (Billy Dee Williams) Everything about this movie is amazing. The Dagobah scenes are so memorable with iconic quotes from Yoda that everyone will of heard of! The conclusion is perfect. It’s not often the sequel tops the original, but this is one of those perfect examples that generations upon generations will agree on! The definitive rating:
So that is my ranking of the Star Wars saga, comment and tell me how you would order these magnificent Sci fi adventures!
